Battle of the Booze: Skynyrd vs Zeppelin

Hello September!

I’m writing this post in mid-July as I was able to convince my docs to hold off on treatment for another three weeks.  So I’m taking advantage of this time to get some posts written in advance.

I chose today’s contenders for their funky vibes.  I hope you enjoy them as well. Keeping the post short and sweet. Will give you all an update on ‘me’ in my results post.

Let’s get this party started!

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Led Zeppelin

If you’re a blogger and want to join in the fun, please do so! There’s plenty of content for everyone to join in.

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    4. Curious As A Cathy

    5. dIEDRE

    6. Debbie DogLady

    7. Boromax aka Ed

    8. Mike’s Ramblings

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.

  1. VOTE = LED ZEPPELIN

As you say, "funky vibes." I like both of these tracks, and this was kind of a tough decision for me... but Robert Plant gets me every time.

  2. Love this funky battle, Mary! ☺ Both were good, but I have to go with Led Zep - just a tad more funk. And, you know, Robert Plant!

  3. Surprisingly, I like Zeppelin's song better. They get my vote.

  4. As I was listening to Skynrd I'm thinking "oh yeah, that's who I'm voting for". Then I listened to Zep. Gotta be the Zep song.
I vote for "Brandy and Coke" (sounds better anyway).

  5. MARY, MARY, QUITE EXTRAORDINARY!

How cool that you and I both used Skynny Lyzyrd in this round of Battle O' Da Booze! (Great minds drink alike!!)

OK, this was an interesting Battle. So, I'm *ass*uming this is a later incarnation of Skynyrd, because I don't know the song and the lead vocalist doesn't sound exactly like Ronnie Van Zant to mine ears. And it seems that Led Zep's 'Trampled Under Foot' began life as a song titled 'Brandy & Coke'? (a drink I've never had, if'n you can believe that!)

Considering it was my first time hearing it, I liked the Skynny Lyzyrd song pretty well. It had plenty o' pep. (And, incidentally, for the record, I have never liked Scotch, if'n you can believe that, too!)

I do like the Zeppelin song... for awhile. It is pert-dern funky for a bunch of White boys from England. But... after awhile that rhythm starts to get a bit old. At about the 3:35 mark I'd heard more than enough of it.

I asked Judge Al Bondigas what he though of the Zep song and he immediately ruled that it was "Too repetitive". So, it seems that he and I felt the same way about it.

One vote & one rulin' for Skynny Lyzyrd, please.

  6. I'm going with Led Zeppelin who just nails it with this song.

  7. I didn't know either of these songs. My vote is going to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Led Zepplain was okay but a bit too thumpy sounding. Take care of yourself, dear Mary! xo

  8. Great song choices! Much to the chagrin of our neighbors the Zeppelin song was the song my roommates and I blasted (so as not to hear the vacuum) every Sunday as we cleaned up the mess of the week before ;-) Zeppelin gets my vote! Happy September, Mary!
