Battle of the Booze Results

Hello my friends!

First off - I have some newsletter business to take care of.  MadMimi, who hosts my mailings, has decided to jump ship. They will be closing up shop at the end of August. That left me in a scramble to figure something else out to let you all know when I post. I’m in the process of getting things switched over to Follow.it.  They are kind of a pain in my butt (on the admin side of things)  - so if you could kindly do me a HUGE favor - and visit my subscribe page to get yourself back on the list, it would mean the world to me. Be sure to respond to the double opt in (can’t be spamming you all, can I?)   That subscribe page can be found here:

Second - Today is The Day!  Today I start my first round of chemo. Let’s hope it all goes well. Radiation treatments will start on the 14th, but not to worry - I have pre-written and scheduled my battle for the 15th.  I’m excited and nervous about the chemo. Radiation is like a walk in the park for me.

Okay… let’s talk about the boozy battle!

It would seem that when it comes down to George Thorogood vs Sammy Hagar, there are some definite opinions out there! That’s not a bad thing. It’s good to be passionate about music and artists.

Stephen mentioned in his comment that Thorogood’s One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer was a rework of John Lee Hooker - but what he didn’t mention was that John Lee Hooker’s version was also a rework of Amos Milburn. Amos Milburn first recorded the tune in 1953.

Sammy Hagar was just a good party vibe for me. I think it would have been fun to be at this concert.

So how did the battle do?

I’ve got the results for the latest battle for you!

Final results -

George Thorogood with 6 votes

Ed, John, JMD, Birgit, Judge Al, Stephen

Sammy Hagar with 4 votes

Cathy, Diedre, Lee, Debbie D

Not bad results! Thank you everyone for stopping by and casting your vote.  Did this battle surprise you?

Singing us out is George Thorogood

Be sure to come back on the 15th for the next installment in the Call Me Battles.

Also, if you’re interested, every Monday a new post in my cancer story goes live at MrrBrr - My Cancer Story  I’d love for you to stop by and say hello.

  1. MMQE ~

It seems that only you and CAThy had close Battles this time. I believe everyone else experienced some degree of a blowout. (Actually, dIEDRE's Battle only had a 4-vote differential, so that's not really technically a blowout.)

Yeah, what Thorogood actually did was combine two different old Blues songs into one. He got the 'bourbon, scotch and beer' part from Amos Milburn, and the lack of a job and rent for the landlady from John Lee Hooker's 'House Rent Boogie'. Pretty clever on George's part.

Good luck with the cancer treatment! I've got you in my prayers.
