Battle of the Booze: Hagar vs Thorogood

August Already!

I’m writing this post in mid-July as I was able to convince my docs to hold off on treatment for another three weeks.  So I’m taking advantage of this time to get some posts written in advance.

Let’s get this party started!

I’ve got too many serious things going on in my life so I picked these two songs based on their party vibe. It’s up to you to decide which one you prefer the most.

George Thorogood

Sammy Hagar

If you’re a blogger and want to join in the fun, please do so! There’s plenty of content for everyone to join in.

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    4. Curious As A Cathy

    5. dIEDRE

    6. Debbie DogLady

    7. Boromax aka Ed

    8. Mike’s Ramblings

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.

  3. I've never cared for the Thorogood song much, but I can't deny it's fun. I can see how he'd probably be good live. Can't say I like the Hagar song much better (though I do like the guitar break), but I do like him after seeing him on so many TV shows. I'll give my vote to Sammy.

  4. VOTE = GEORGE THOROGOOD

Well... I guess I just like George's storytelling, singing voice, and guitar better. Sorry, Sammy. I still love ya, man.

  5. I like them both, but Sammy Hagar rocks harder! Tequila, it is. ☺ Wishing you all the best, Mary! ♥

  6. MMQE ~

So, it's Bourbon, Scotch & Beer versus Tequila?

Sounds like someone is outnumbered and going to get his arse handed to him on a silver platter!

Judge Al said he was rulin' fer GEORGE, but stated that familiarity may have played a part in his rulin'.

Because I'm a wee bit o' late to this game, I'm going to be extra snarky (yes, even more snarky than usual) so that you will feel my comment / vote was worth the wait:

I first heard of Sammy Hagar in 1978, when I read a rave review of his newest album 'All Night Long' in BAM (Bay Area Music), a free magazine that I picked up in a small bookstore at the corner of Lincoln & Pico Boulevards in Santa Monica.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAM_(magazine)

The review was so over-the-top praising this live album by this guy whom I'd never heard of, that I went right out and bought the LP. To this day, I have not forgiven BAM (nor Sammy Hagar).

I'm convinced that if you told A.I. to create "a typical, run-of-the mill, cookie-cutter caricature of a long-haired Rock star", A.I. would give you a recreation of Sammy Hagar. Sammy Hagar is the *real* Spinal Tap. I think he's a hologram. I suspect Sammy Hagar doesn't even have any fingerprints. He's as original as a red barn out in the country!

I don't hate Sammy Hagar as a person, but I think he should have spent his life chopping wood, rather than banging out noisy cliche solos on his guitars.

    {*Psst! MMQE, was that snarky enough? Was it worth the wait? I sincerely hope so. I didn't hold back very much at all.*}

A little known fact is that George Thorogood's 'One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer' (which you can safely assume that I am voting for) is a reworked and expanded version of John Lee Hooker's song 'House Rent Boogie'.
