Call Me Battle: Croce vs Rundgren

Hello?

Hi! It’s Me!  Just calling to let you know that it’s time for another round of the Call Me Battle of the Bands.

With my current health situation, I’m writing/scheduling these posts in advance. I’m going to do my best to visit everyone’s battles, but having these posts already scheduled greatly reduces stress and gives me a chance to relax a minute and heal. So, while I may have written and scheduled this post last month, I do hope that you will take a moment to listen to the contenders and cast your votes.

Today’s battle consists of two great tunes from the 70s - an era that I often refer to as ‘The Comfort Food of Music’

First up on the stage is….

Jim Croce

That was a fun song, wasn’t it? Well, don’t get too comfy because another great song is taking them on and fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

Our second contender on the stage is….

Todd Rundgren

Who will make it to the playoffs? Cast your votes in the comments below. If you find yourself unable to leave a comment, please visit Jingle Jangle Jungle’s facebook page to leave a comment on the post that correlates with this battle.

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    4. Curious As A Cathy

    5. dIEDRE

    6. Debbie DogLady

    7. Boromax aka Ed

    8. Mike’s Ramblings

Are you a blogger and want to join in the fun with your own music battles on the 1st and 15th of each month (or only one battle a month) - reach out to Mr McCarthy to get yourself added to the list!

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 22nd of this month.

  1. VOTE = TODD RUNDGREN

MARY! I truly think this was the toughest battle ever, at least for me. I love both of these songs. I went with Todd because of some of the lyrics - 'it's important to me that you know you are free' and 'if I ever need a reason to smile,' among others. But, man, the story in Jim Croce's Operator. Tough battle. ~Ed.

  2. Wow... two songs from roughly the same period... I liked both of them when they were in the Top 40, but I liked Croce a whole lot more, so I'll go with that one.

  3. Good to hear both of these golden oldies ;-) I have to go with Jim Croce on this - I loved the entire album!

  4. I hope you are doing well, Mary, all things considered. ♥ This was an easy choice for me - Jim Croce all the way! The memories attached are probably a big reason why.

  5. Interesting battle - two separate songs with the same sentiment. Both are great songs of their era. I'm going with Croce and Operator. Pay phones are such a relic, lol. But I prefer his smooth, evocative voice for this sentiment. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

  6. Very tough battle songs! I like both so very much. I drifted off to sleep at nights as a kid to the sound Jim Croce. Todd Rundgren has an easy going vocals, too. Something about "Hello, It's Me" pulls me just a little more and am giving my vote to Todd Rundgren!

  7. MMQE ~

Wha--?! Wha' hoppened to my vote? It was here before and now it's gone!

I voted for RUNDGREN's song, and my brother, Judge Al Bondigas, laid down a rulin' on behalf of CROCE's song. Those still stand, even though my original comment seems to have sprouted wings and flown somewhere yonder.
