Battle of the Booze
Welcome to July!
Is the year really half over? It feels as though it’s just getting started!
So, in my Call Me Battle Results, I hinted that I had stuffs to tell you all. Let’s just say my luck has run out for a minute, and I am no longer ahead of the game.
To compound the issue - Sport and Spine wants me to start some physical therapy for my torn rotator cuff, and I just received some bad news on the oncology front. Or is it good news with a twist? Hmmm
My recent scan shows new trouble spots, but they are either where we previously did radiation, or very close to it. So instead of doing more radiation - I get to do a couple rounds of chemotherapy.
The good news about that - all my hair will fall out. I know, I know… you’re thinking I’m crazy to think that is good news. Well it is because 6 weeks after chemo, it will grow back - and if watching others go through this process is any indication - my thin gray hair will be gone and the hair will return a darker color and the hair will be thicker.
Focusing on the positives here!
So halfway through the month, I will start the chemo, and will have some PT training to keep up the work on my shoulder while I’m down and out.
The bad news - I’m being proactive and something has to give so that I have time to recover. That means Song of the Day is taking a break and in the downtime, I am planning on prepping my Rocktober posts. I would be delighted if you wanted to join me in celebrating Rocktober as well. More on that in a future post.
Okay - let’s change the mood and get this party started!
I think I have picked a couple of fun songs for you this time around. Be sure to give them a fair listen and not only cast your vote, but encourage others to join in and vote as well.
Lorrie Morgan & Sammy Kershaw
Joe Nichols
If you’re a blogger and want to join in the fun, please do so! There’s plenty of content for everyone to join in.
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.
I'm sorry about the news you got. You sure have an upbeat way to seeing things, girl! Prayers are lifted on your behalf, my friend.
ReplyDeleteTurning to your battle, both contenders vocally do a fantastic job. The first song has a bit of a summery feel to it. The second one, the song title made me grin. I think in the end, I think I preferred Joe Nichols voice and song better. Please give my vote to Joe!
I'll keep your Rocktoberfest in mind and I'm struggling to maintain my presence in Blogosphere as it is but I'll think about it. Have a bandtastic day, Mary. Take good care of yourself. We all love you and want you to get well! xo
Firstly, you'll have a new head of hair and it will be luscious but I am so sorry you have to endure chemo. You will get through this!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the first one...it's fun, and not too country as I'm not into country
VOTE = SAMMY & LORRIE
ReplyDeleteAnother tough battle! Both of these songs are fun, and I like Joe Nichols' voice a lot. But there is something endearing about Sammy & Lorrie's duet tribute to the dangers / wonders of tequila. And I am a sucker for duet's, too.

ReplyDelete>>... "Or is it good news with a twist? Hmmm"
Is that kind of like a tequila cocktail with a twist? Lemon, lime or orange? What's your twist preference?
>>... "The good news about that - all my hair will fall out. I know, I know… you’re thinking I’m crazy to think that is good news."
Hokey-Smoke! Well I can certainly say this for you, Mary: You are the ultimate queen when it comes to finding the silver lining in a stormy sky!
As always, I will certainly keep you in my daily prayer session!
[Psst! Hast thou ever tasted bitter apricot seeds? There's also a silver lining to be found in their nasty flavor.]
When I saw the full title of the Lorrie Morgan & Sammy Kershaw song, I literally - literally! - laughed-out-loud!
Even so, I liked the JOE NICHOLS' song a bit better. There was more "there" there. (Although I'm not sure I needed to see so much of Grandma. Ha!)
Judge Al Bondigas said that he also liked both songs, but he was making a rulin' for 'He Drinks Tequila, She Talks Dirty in Spanish'. I wonder if that is because the Judge actually speaks Spanish fluently and he would therefore understand every dirty thing she said. ;-)
Keep up the phenomenally good attitude, my friend! I'm sure it helps in the overall scheme of things!

I just featured Lorrie Morgan on her birthday last week, as it so happens. The duet between her and Sammy Kershaw (I think they were married at the time) was cute, so I'm going with them.
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. Think positive is the best we can do as compared to the alternative.
ReplyDeleteBetween the songs I think I had more fun with the first song by Morgan and Kershaw.
