Battle of the Booze
Hey look! We made it through another year! Welcome to 2024!
Dang near a year ago, Stephen approached me with an idear. At the time, I wasn't doing so great healthwise, so we decided to put a pin on this one until now - Plus he wanted it to start on his Margarita Day (I say ‘His’ because the official Margarita Day happens in February - google it. I’m not lying!)
We will both be running Battle of the Booze battles, but using our own selections - just to keep it interesting. I’ll share more of the ‘rules’ of the boozy battles, just in case some of you all want to join in as well.
The song MUST mention a specific type of booze - not just ‘alcohol’ or ‘drinking’
The format of the battles will be as follows:
Song A beats Song B.Song C beats Song D.Song E beats Song F.Song G beats Song H.Song I beats Song J.Song K beats Song L.Somewhere down the road, the Playoffs will begin, and look like this:A versus CE versus GI versus J
Now for this first battle, I’m definitely breaking all the rules.
It’s New Year's Day. I’m certain a few of you may have indulged a bit too much, and the thought of alcohol might put you over the edge. Nothing like a little Hair O’ the Dog to get you through this day.
So today’s song doesn't mention drinking or alcohol - or even any specific type of alcohol. But I thought it would be a fun way to kick off the theme.
So let’s get this party started!
Guns N Roses
Nazareth
Now I’ve got a pretty good idea that this may be a lopsided battle - but honestly today’s battle is more about introducing the theme than anything else. If you’re a blogger and want to join in the fun, please do so! There’s plenty of content for everyone to join in.
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.
Interesting idea for a theme! ☺ That said, I'm going to wing it this year.

For me, Axl's vocals don't cut it and I have to go with the orignal by Nazareth.
Best wishes for a happy and healthier 2024!

It's been so long since I've heard this song. For me, Nazareth wins by a boozy mile. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteHappy, Boozy New 2024!
I'm all liquored-up on this BOTB's BOTB idear. Even to the point that I am considering doing some mid-month Battles again.
I think of the Nazareth 'Hair Of The Dog' original as a genuine "Classic Rock" song. I always liked this song. It gets my motor runnin'! Love the tempo, the intensity and of course... all that cowbell! Helck, it's so good that it doesn't even "need more cowbell" (and I've *never* said that about any song before!)
As far as I'm concerned, the Guns 'N' Roses cover didn't bring anything new or different to the song. It sounds to me like a lesser band doing a lesser rendition of the rootin'-tootin' rockin' original.
I raise my Margarita glass to toast and vote for... NAZARETH! Long may those SOBs rock on!

Well, I don't know. But I'll go back to the more old school choice of Nazareth.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Mary!
ReplyDeleteYour battle theme concept sounds interesting. To say, I'm not familiar with adult beverages is putting it mildly.
We need more cow bell! I'm going with Nazareth. :)
Here's hoping 2024 will be a better year for you, my dear! xo
Nazareth for me, please. Definitely sounds more like the "old school" stuff - Cheers!
ReplyDeleteBy all means, Nazareth, even though GnR played a little "Day Tripper" at the end...
ReplyDeleteI used to drink Bloody Caesars in the morning. Ughhh. I give my vote to Nazareth because the tempo stayed and his voice was good throughout. The other one...nope, in fact I couldn't take it near the end when it started to race and go faster and faster. That was too much for me.
