Today’s battle almost feels like it’s been done before, but I don’t find it in my records, so maybe I’ve just thought about doing this one….
We have three contenders today…
The first contender is The Dead South
Our second contender is MonaLisa Twins
Our third contender is Leo Moracchioli
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out. *I think this is a recent list, if not, Cathy keeps a current list on her battle posts.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Did I make the right song choice for today?
Hey Mary!
ReplyDeleteIt's great seeing you joining the BOTB. I noticed you also hit the 4M dance floor but am running behind this week. I'll check that out next but now to cast my vote in this showdown. All three covers are nice. My favorite is Leo Moracchioli. Have a good week, my dear!
I love this song and I like the Mona Lisa Twins the best. I love her voice and the drummer is excellent
ReplyDeleteThe Twins are okay and the mish mash at the end is somewhat interesting. Leo does a very nice and mostly faithful cover of the original with some tasty updates. However the Dead South took the song to a different level and made it sound more like their own song. I've liked all the songs I've heard by this group.
ReplyDeleteGive my vote to The Dead South.

ReplyDeleteThis was a strange Battle. I mean, where was Tiny Tim?!
Yip! Your feeling was right - this song HAD been used before in BOTB (not that it matters). I put The Doors up against Tiny Tim on [link> [Link> MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2014 and predictably, The Doors won (6-3).
In this Battle, I'm definitely voting for the UFB (Unidentified Flying Banjo). I really liked what The Dead South did with this song, and somehow it just seems to make sense to have a banjo in a song titled 'People Are Strange'. That video with the flying banjo reminded me of the Twilight Zone episode 'Hocus-Pocus and Frisby', where Somerset Frisby (Andy Devine) used a harmonica to fight off a bunch of evil space aliens. I suppose a kazoo would work too.
I liked the bass solo in the MonaLisa Twins rendition, but somehow it didn't really seem like it belonged in *that* song.
And I really, REALLY liked the girl riding the bus in the Leo Moracchioli video (is she available for rent?)
But, music-wise, if I can't bote for Tiny Tim, then the UFB is the next best thing.

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Good choice for the song. I'm going to go with Leo because I like his vocal the best.
ReplyDeleteHI Mary, it's been a while! I hope you are doing well these days. Great song choice and I enjoyed all three covers, so it was hard to choose. In the end, I thought The Dead South's rendition was the most interesting.
