Everything I Own Battle Results
Everything I Own was first recorded by David Gates and Bread, and had a few successful covers following. Our battle was between Bread, Ken Boothe, and Boy George.
During their haydays - they each ranked in the top #1 or #2 spots on the charts. But I was curious to see how they rank right here in 2021.
For a hot minute, I thought for sure it was going to be a complete shutout. But both Ken Boothe and Boy George managed to garner a vote each.
So that makes Bread the ultimate winner. I’ll close this out with my all time favorite Bread tune.
Hopefully my June battle will be better. Time will only tell.
Unfortunately I associate Bread with a former relationship. It's funny though, hearing other people sing the songs doesn't bother me as much. Nice battle.

Gotta be Bread. They had such a distinctive sound.

Tossing It Out
'IF' is a beautiful song.
ReplyDeleteBut 'If' I had to select just one Bread song as my very favorite, it would be 'MAKE IT WITH YOU'. That song can nearly bring me to tears. Maybe because I never did find that girl (the mythical "Emily") in my own life, so 'Make It With You' is almost a melancholy taunt to me.
MMQE, it's too bad you used Bread in this contest. The blowout was predictable, but I'm glad you didn't suffer an actual shutout.
I think if you had put Girl George's fine cover of 'Everything I Own' up against Metallica's unknown cover of the song you might have had a more competitive contest.
Catch ya on the B side, my friend!

Mary,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Bread won. :) "If" was sung at our wedding - such a beautiful song! Thanks for sharing the outcome of your last battle. Have a good weekend, my dear!
