I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus
I thought I would switch it up just a little today.
Today’s hymn is one that is generally sung by children, but as you can see and hear from the video, adults enjoy it as well.
I recall as a young girl when Janice Kapp Perry, the songwriter for this song, released this for general use. I loved it then almost as much as I love it now.
The song has such a great message that we can all apply to our lives.
The inspiration for the song comes from The New Testament.
John 13:15, 34
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
“I’m Trying To Be Like Jesus”
Written and arranged by Janice Kapp Perry, 1980
1. I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”
2. I’m trying to love my neighbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught.
Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying:
“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”
I am always open to suggestions for songs to be used, as well as other suggestions you might have for the blog. If you would rather not share that info in the comments, you may email your suggestions.
Lovely song, and just as apropos for adults as kids. Adults are just big kids, right?
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI wish I were more like Jesus and yet I know I'm far from His glorious examples but one day, I shall be like Jesus when I stand in His presence. What a lovely song! John is right, we are just big kids...God's kids!
