#4M: Songs about Independence, plus #BOTB Results
Welcome back for Monday’s Music Moves Me (aka #4M)
We’re under the direction of a new co-host/conductor for this month. Congrats to Driller!
He’s chosen the theme of “Songs about Personal or National Independence”
Last week, I shared with you about my thoughts on Independence Day, and I also had a Battle of the Bands that tied into the theme nicely.
The Battle of the Bands turned out a bit different from how I had imagined it would go. I had Hollywood Vampires competing again The Wallflowers. I thought for sure that Hollywood Vampires would get more votes than what was given. I intentionally did not share their ‘official’ video for the song, as I didn’t want it to influence your decision. Hollywood Vampires were on tour when they had access to a studio in Germany - the very same studio that David Bowie used to record that very same song. Some of you commented that Johnny Depp seemed to be channeling David Bowie, and I think that perhaps this may have been true. I’m sure that while they were recording in that studio, there was some inspiration taking place. Here is that video:
I watched an interview on YouTube that was hyping Hollywood Vampire’s new album and Alice Cooper was talking about how they wanted Johnny Depp to do the lead vocals on this song. Johnny kept saying ‘but I can’t sing!’ and Alice had to remind him that he had performed on Broadway and that he could indeed sing.
Anyhoo...
So here’s the final result tally for the battle (including my vote):
Hollywood Vampires with 4 votes
The Wallflowers with 5 votes
Now don’t you worry, I haven’t forgotten about the #4M theme!
I’ve got a song for you all to enjoy :) From the early days of her career, here is Kelly Clarkson:
Did you vote in the battle? Will you be voting in the upcoming battle on July 15? I haven’t picked the song yet, so it’s going to be a surprise for us all :)
Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants. If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this bloghop.
That Kelly Clarkson song is one of my favorites. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick!
DeleteI love Kelly Clarkson!
ReplyDeleteI do too. She's like a little bit of indulgence.
DeleteI like Kelly Clarkson as a brunette. Goes with her voice.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I've never thought of hair color as adding to (or taking away from) the quality of voice.
DeleteGreat Battle, MMQE!
ReplyDeleteA one-vote margin of victory - that's LITERALLY as good as BOTB can get! Nicely done.
See ya on July 15th or thereabouts.
Bless And Be Blessed!

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Well, to be honest, if I hadn't of included my vote, it would have been a 2 vote margin.
DeleteWorking out the kinks for next week (and no, that's not a hint toward a band that I'm using)

I love this album and am so surprised The Vamps didn't win! We saw them in concert a few years ago and are fervently hoping they'll come by this way again. Their live stage show was fantastic! ♥
ReplyDeleteGreat song choice for today's theme! Kelly Clarkson really rocked it.
Debbie
DeleteI have been enjoying the various videos from the album this past week. They have really honed their skills.
Nice outcome. Shows an equally matched competition I think. Since Johnny Depp is an actor it seems to make sense to me that he'd "channel" the artist he was kind of portraying. For not being a singer I think he did alright.
ReplyDeleteLee
I think he did pretty darn good!
DeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us on the 4M dance floor. I can't recall how I voted in your BoTB so I had to double check. It looks like my pick won! I like Kelly Clark the purrson but I'm not a huge fan of her mewsic. She seems like a lot of fun on The Voice. I hope you had a great Independence Day. Have a boogietastic week, my furriend! ;)
Thanks, Cathy!
DeleteIt's always fun when your pick wins. See you next week.
Dang, Kelly, how come I never got invited to a party like that? Anyway, the battle is over but wow, Johnny Depp really rocked it, didn't he? That was such a good cover of an excellent David Bowie song. Yes, Johnny, you can sing. I'll have to hunt down the Wallflowers cover but not today.
ReplyDeleteHi Alana
DeleteThe quickest way to find the Wallflowers cover is to visit the battle post. Otherwise, YouTube is a good option. I'll be back on Monday with a new battle.
