#BattleOfTheBands : World Changing Edition
Happy Happy New Year!
This is the time of year that many sit down to write out their goals or resolutions for the year. It’s also a time to reflect on how well we kept our goals during the previous year.
It’s so easy to say ‘I want World Peace!’ but truly World Peace doesn’t happen unless we take action and do our part.
Do you set annual goals for yourself? Personally, I try not to set annual goals, but lately, I have found myself setting monthly goals. It seems to be easier to make and see progress if I just take smaller bites. A wise person once said you can’t eat an elephant in one sitting.
Today’s song that I chose for battle was written by Eric Clapton and Babyface. Ironically, Wynonna Judd recorded and released a cover of the song before Eric Clapton was able to release his song. When researching various covers, I found several acapella versions. They weren’t terrible, but they weren’t what I was looking for.
Finally, I narrowed my search down to 3 female contenders. One had a definite jazz lounge feel about it, while the other two seem had a closer sound to each other. My gut told me the jazz lounge singer probably wouldn’t have much of a leg to stand on in this battle, so I’m putting the other two ladies up against each other.
As a reminder for you seasoned readers and to help out those of you who may be new here
Here is how a battle works:
Step One - Listen to each of the contenders. TRY not to be persuaded by the videos (unless specifically requested - in the case of today’s battle, listening is more important than watching)
Step Two - Pick the contender that you prefer the most (not just the one who’s name you are familiar with)
Step Three - Comment with your selection. The comment section has been set up so that anyone can leave a comment. I do ask that you please include your name, should you use the anonymous feature. Today’s contenders are Simone Kopmajer and Wynonna Judd. These are the only contenders that will receive votes today in this battle.
Step Four - Visit Stephen’s blog to check out his battle and for a list of other bloggers that have have battles going on. We each have different battles, so please be sure to visit everyone. I'll provide a link below the videos to Stephen's blog for your convenience.
Contender #1 - Simone Kopmajer
Contender #2 - Wynonna Judd
Now, to repeat myself again:
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH AN ARTIST OR A SONG TO KNOW WHICH ONE YOU PREFER. You only need to listen to the videos and choose which one sounds better to you. There are no right or wrong votes, unless you vote for someone not listed as a contender or don’t vote at all.
For those of you who may be interested in joining in our fun - The battles take place twice a month. Once on the 1st, and again on the 15th. Some participants have chosen to participate only once a month - and that’s okay - we’re just happy to have you join us! Your battle can consist of covers of the same song, different songs with the same title, or even a themed type battle. We just want you to join in the fun! Catch the link to Stephen’s blog to join in - all you need to do is drop him a comment on his blog stating you’d like to participate and he’ll add you to the roster of participants.
I’d like to encourage you to visit the other bloggers participating in the battle of the bands blog hop as well. We’ve all put a lot of time and effort into putting together these battles and they are a lot of fun. Each blogger has a different battle taking place. You can find a current list of participants on Stephen’s blog (don't forget you can also request to join the battle of the bands blog hop by simply commenting on his blog that you'd like to join us).
Alright now… Cast your votes for either Simone Kopmajer or Wynonna Judd!
Voting will end on Monday, January 7 with results being posted on Tuesday, January 8.
This is a tough choice as they are similar and both good. I like Simone's voice and the style of her arrangement. I like Wynonna's version better because for one thing I like Wynonna Judd. Her version has a greater authenticity to my perception.
ReplyDeleteGive my vote to Wynonna Judd. Nice song to start of the year. Hope we all have a really fine 2019.

Thanks, Lee!
DeleteI hope your 2019 brings your all the happiness in the world. Sure do appreciate your stopping by each battle and offering your support and votes.
Happy New Year!

Both ladies have tremendous voices, so I have to choose the arrangement I like better, which is Simone Kopmajer's. That is some great guitar work! Have to see what else I can find on her.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John!
Delete2 votes in and it's a tie already :) Glad that I could introduce you to a new lady musician. Thanks for your continued support and votes! Happy New Year!

MARY, MARY, QUITE EXTRAORDINARY ~
ReplyDeleteAs I just posted in Lee's comment section:
I'm getting a late start today on BOTB because I had a couple Margaritas to go out and get today, and I incorporated them into a bicycle ride. Just got back.
First, let me wish you, from the bottom of my heart, a very happy 'n' healthy 2019. Oh, yeah, and... ROCK ON!
Secondly... good song choice, Mary! Me likey!
My vote is an easy one to cast: Simone Kopmajer.
I really liked her voice, as well as the arrangement. Very, very cool! (She gives off a vibe, though, that screams: "I'm a handful! High maintenance to the max!" I could be wrong about that, but that's what my Spidey Sense is tellin' me.)
Anyway, I really enjoyed her rendition of the song. By comparison, Wynonna Judd just has way too many sharp angles in her voice. It wasn't bad, but it was nowhere near as smooth as Simone.
Thanks for BOTBing with us again this year, and thanks again for the the meticulous BOTB records you keep! You're much appreciated, Mary!

Happy Margarita Day to you, Stephen!
DeleteIt's a bit cold here to be going for bike rides, motorized or not. I think we finally got up to a balmy 11 degrees. Thankfully, I have had power through all of this. My cousin to the north of me about 25 miles was out of power for a solid 24 hours. Good thing she has a wood stove and a fireplace, or there would be concern over frozen pipes.
It's been a bit slow here, but that's been nice for me as I was gone most of the week last week and had a ton of email to sift through.
Here's to a great start to the new year!
~Mary
Mary,
ReplyDelete🎊Happy New Year! 🎊🎉🥳
Our weather isn't too bad here, actually it's quite mild at present but I know this will change before long. 'Change the World' is a song I hadn't heard in a long time so it was excellent to listen to these two ladies covering Clapton's song. This was an easy pick for me. I by far preferred Simone Kopmajer. Her vocals are more pleasing to the ears and I liked the mewsic arrangement better. Nice battle to start the year off. May God's blessings of good health, happiness, and prosperity be yours throughout 2019! XO
Happy New Year, Cathy!
DeleteOur temps keep dipping below zero here, or lingering in the single digits today and tomorrow. I'm just going to stay inside with my hot cocoa and enjoy myself.
Thanks for stopping in today with your vote. This year has had a bit of a slow start, but hopefully it will pick up soon.
~Mary
Happy New Year, Mary!
ReplyDeleteWhile my goals for the new year aren’t quite as lofty as changing the world (I plan to ease up on the snacking and walk more, now that I’m able), you’ve chosen the perfect song for a new beginning. Aren’t fresh starts exhilarating?
I liked Simone’s cover right off (soft, yet buoyant), and the guitar was excellent! I listened to Wynonna – just in case, but Simone still gets my vote.
Happy New Year, Diedre!
DeleteI'm so glad that you took the time to listen to both covers, as it's the little nuances that can make a difference. Sure do appreciate you stopping in with a vote!

Happy New Year, Mary! ☺ Good choice of song to start things off. Mostly, I "go with the flow" these days and try to enjoy life to the max. That said, I'm always resolving to lose weight and get more exercise; that's a constant. LOL. I prefer Wynonna's vocals and am voting for Ms. Judd. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Debbie!
DeleteNothing wrong at all with going with the flow - as long as you don't accidentally become a sheeple. As the meme says you have to be careful while following the masses, sometimes the m is silent. I'm actually a bit surprised that you would vote for a country gal like Wynonna. But on the bright side, you are helping to save her from a blowout.
~Mary
Sheeple? Me? Not a chance! ☺ By going with the flow, I meant not setting a lot goals, just living in the moment. It's Wynonna's voice I preferred. She has a great set of pipes.
DeleteBoth stellar songs because..
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm going to tell you, if you would be quiet and listen. I did listen to the Judd song three times, off the rafters, because I like it a lot.
Simone Kopmajer… Simone Kopmajer had me at hello. A vote for Simone Kopmajer.
Happy New Year to you, Mr G-Dogg!
DeleteI honestly thought this would be a closer battle, but I agree that it is a great battle. I'm going to have to look into more of Simone Kopmajer covers/songs to see what she's all about.
~Mary
Happy New Year, Mary! Great song to start the year out right.
ReplyDeleteThis may not be a popular opinion, but I usually like a lot of Wynnona's stuff. However, Simone takes my vote today. Wow! Great voice and oh-so-smooth.
Thanks, Mary!!
Hey Cherdo!
DeleteThanks for stopping in! For half a second I thought you were going to vote for Wynonna. Way to psyche me out! Happy New Year to ya!
~Mary
Both were nice Simone gets my vote
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike!
