#4M : New Year Celebration Songs
Today’s theme for #MondaysMusicMovesMe or #4M has been chosen by Marie of Xmas Dolly. She has chosen all of the themes for the month of December. As her name implies, she is a big fan of the Christmas Holiday, and as such has she has chosen the entire month to be Holiday music.
I spent my Christmas with the ‘Holiday Captors’. Yes, they captured me and held me hostage for a few days. I can’t complain too loudly, though. I did have a lot of fun.
We spent most of our time playing silly gift unwrapping games - my captor’s daughter wrapped up some tiny gifts in cellophane and bubblewrap with chocolate treats mixed in. There were a few layers of wrapping paper as well. We were each given 18 seconds to take turns trying to open the gift. The catch - we had to wear an oven mitt on our dominant hand, and use a whisk in the other hand. That poor whisk was destroyed after the first game. So for the second and third gifts, we used a rubber spatula. Lots of laughter and tons of fun.
The holiday tradition at their home is to watch ‘Holiday Inn’ with Bing Crosby and ‘While You Were Sleeping’ with Sandra Bullock. After that, we watched a coupla John Wayne movies and then ‘One Little Indian’ with James Garner. We ended the movie marathon with one of the Star Wars movies.
The weather wasn’t the best, but we were all inside with a fireplace to keep us warm. Good thing, too, as there was a power outage one of the mornings. Finally, my captors returned me to my home, albeit a few days later than what was originally planned.
And now, it’s time to ring in the New Year!
I’ve picked a few songs to help us celebrate.
- Joe Walsh - New Years Eve
- The Maguire Sisters - Happy New Year
- Ella Fitzgerald - What Are You Doing New Years Eve
- The Zombies - This Will Be Our Year
- Bing Crosby - Let’s Start The New Year Right
I hope that everyone has a good New Years celebration! Don’t overdo it with the drinking and merriment! Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow (Jan 1) for the next installment of Battle of the Bands.
Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Mary,
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas jollies sound like so much fun! That's a good way to share in the holidays - family time playing games and watching movies. I toast you (sparkling apple cider of course) on your fine New Year's mewsic selection. "This Will Be Our Year" is new-to-me. I appreciated listening to The Zombie's oldie! It's been great fun sharing 2018 with you in Blogosphere. Your friendship meant a lot to me and I shall look forward to more fun together in the coming new year. May the good Lord bless you and yours in 2019, dearie!
I really did have a good time. Thank you for being such a good friend. Looking forward to 2019!

I love that your 'captors' made things so entertaining for you! And that gift game sounds like a hoot! I might have to incorporate that with our Christmas Eve shenanigans at my brother's house next year...heh!! Love all your song choices! Thanks so much for dancing with us throughout the year - here's to an inspirational 2019! Have a Happy New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteThe game was hilarious! Good thing whisks dont cost much, as that poor thing was completely destroyed. And the rubber spatula - the end flew off more than once. Thanks for all of your support this year. Looking forward to more fun and games in 2019.
DeleteWe had a couple of the same ones, so good choices! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, John! With the holidays, the likelihood of duplicates is greater. All good music, though!
DeleteVery nice songs. We both picked The Zombies. It is a great song. Have a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Patrick!
DeleteThanks perfect to hear Joe Walsh for New years eve...It's going to be a rockin' year!! Happy New year!!
ReplyDeleteBetween Joe Walsh rockin' a reggae vibe, and Bing Crosby, it really was a good way to start the New Year right, although I'm several days late for that. Wishing you a belated very Happy New Year.
