#SongLyricSunday : Tori Amos - Body and Soul
Time again for Song Lyric Sunday!
The Idea was formed by Helen @ This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time. She has presented us with the word prompt of SOUL for this week.
Helen was right when she said this prompt could go many directions. I immediately thought of three songs, each one using the word SOUL in a different context. But as usual, I don’t like to go with the first thing that pops into my head when it comes to these challenges, as I’m pretty sure someone else has thought of these same songs as well. So, I dig a little deeper…
I was using a website to assist in my search for something good, yet not a ‘first thought’. That’s how I came to today’s post.
It’s been a few years since I have listened to Tori Amos, so she hasn’t been on my musical radar for awhile.
We don’t know much about this song, other than it comes from her ninth studio album, American Doll Posse that was released in 2007.
Body and Soul
Sweet Communion
Sweet Communion
I have waited all my life
You say you are bonafide
To be my judge
Lay your law down on me love
Seven devils bring them on
I have left my weapons
Cause I think you're wrong
These devils of yours they need love
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Body and soul body and soul body and soul
Sweet Communion
Sweet Communion
In my temple boy be warned
Violence doesn't have a home now but ecstasy
That's as pure as a woman's gold
Seven devils bring them on
I have left my weapons
Cause I think you're wrong
These devils of yours they need love
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Body and soul body and soul body and soul
I'll save you from that Sunday sermon
Boy I think you need a conversion
Body and soul
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Come and kneel with me body and soul
Body and soul body and soul body and soul

The lyrics are sweet but I haven't heard this song...
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad that I introduced it to you? :)
Delete~Mary
yes I am. Now u wont like if i kiss u for this. :*
DeleteThis is a different sound I remember for Tori Amos, I like it! Thanks for the introduction. Like you, she hasn't been on my music radar for many years, but I always thought of her more as a ballad, slow song kind of singer. I'm digging the beat to this one. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. This album took on a more rock sound than Tori had in her previous albums. The beat of this song drew me in as well.

Tori's been off my radar for some time now. Always good to hear her, though. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteThat was me (hope my name shows up this time!)
DeleteThanks, Tara!
DeleteIt's nice to circle back every once in a while. My loop typically stays in the 70's but I like to color outside the box sometimes, too :)
