Battle of the Bands Results
Another battle has come and gone…
We spent the past week casting votes here at Jingle Jangle Jungle for what we believe the best cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”
I think my friend Michele from Angels Bark described the battle best when she described the contenders as “mild, hot, and blazin’” Harry Styles representing the ‘mild’, The Show Ponies representing the ‘hot’, and Taking Dawn representing the ‘blazin’’. Using this analogy, it would appear that the majority of you like a little spice, but not too much!
The final tally -
Harry Styles with 3 votes
The Show Ponies with 6 votes
Taking Dawn with 3 votes
And we also had 5 readers who sadly, tossed a wet blanket on the battle by not casting any vote. I did have a potential 4th contestant, but I intentionally did not include them in the battle. This particular cover was used by HBO as the theme song to their documentary series “Family Bonds” This version was not promoted as a single, but still debuted at number 36 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart in 2004. I felt that this might give them an unfair advantage over the other contenders.
Here is their version:
What did you think of this battle? Did your vote go to the winner? I’ve got (in my opinion) a pretty decent battle lined up for October 1st. I do hope to see you all there. Bring your friends. Encourage them to vote for the contestants.
Oh hey… before I go.. I wanted to invite you to come join in some month-long fun that will be taking place here during the month of October. I’m hosting a blog hop “Rocktober MusicFest” with fresh linky to join each day. You can join in as much as every day, or just once or twice - your level of participation is up to you. If you want to join me in the fun, all you need to do is write a post with a song and video that also falls under the category of ‘Rock’. This can any sub-genre of Rock. (Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Alternative, Punk, Acid, Classic, Rockabilly, Southern, etc) For more details Click the graphic in the sidebar or click this graphic:
I hope you’ll join me in this celebration of Rock!
That was a close Battle, MARY. Nicely constructed, well played, and no one yelled at the umpire. (Now if only Tennis were this civilized.)
ReplyDeleteThat was a good description from Michele, and that's about right, too -- I like it spicy, but there IS such a thing as "too much spice". No surprise then that I voted for The Show Ponies. And, no, had Tantric's version been included in the Battle, it would NOT have changed my vote.
I won't be using Tiny Tim in my October 1st Battle. Sorry. I'm not sure yet who my next competitors will be, but I DO know that it's going to be another installment in my 'Battle For Los Angeles' series. I haven't done one of those in awhile and I have a long list of potential songs for it. I gotta try to find the match-up that's "just right", as Goldilocks would say.

STMcC Presents 'Battle Of The Bands'
Thanks, McCarthy!
DeleteI thought it turned out pretty good as well :)
I am both shocked and appalled that Tiny Tim will not be making an appearance on October 1st. Is it because you haven't been able to find a contender strong enough to go up against him?
My October 1 battle pays homage to my very first official Battle of the Bands. My faux-husband sings the original song, but he and his band are not contenders. It may even turn out to be a bit of the battle of the sexes. I have a good feeling about the post and looking forward to kicking off a fun month of Rock!
My Oct 15 is thought out - but not yet written. But it will represent a sub-genre of rock and aptly themed for that holiday at the end of the month.
Thanks for dropping in with your .03!

Not too shabby, Mary!

Thanks, Cherdo!
