Band on The Verge...
I’m sure by now as the month of April wraps up, that everyone knows that I have a little bit of a love affair with Classic Rock going on.
But I have another confession to make.
I sometimes cheat on Classic Rock with another love of mine - All things Dave Grohl.
Currently Dave and his band, Foo Fighters, are on tour promoting their current album, Concrete and Gold. It’s got some good tunes on it, you should check it out sometime.
But, believe it or not… this post is NOT about Dave or Foo Fighters.
Nope.
It’s about a band that has been opening for them recently. They call themselves The Struts
Perhaps you’ve heard of them. Perhaps not.
The Struts are from England, and they formed their little band back in 2009. The Struts have been described as "unabashedly over the top retro-fetishist classic rock" and "glamorous and dangerous". Maybe that’s why I like them. Or perhaps it’s because the lead singer reminds me of Freddie Mercury.
To date, The Struts have released one studio album - Everybody Wants, and 3 EPs - Kiss This, Have You Heard… and Live and Unplugged.
In 2015 the band relocated to Los Angeles. They appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night With Seth Meyers. Also in 2015 they were named "Band on the Verge" by USA Today.
Aside from Foo Fighters, they have opened for The Who, The Rolling Stones and Guns N Roses.
Enough with the intro. Nothing speaks louder about a band than their sound. So let’s have a listen. I’ve put together a little playlist for you to enjoy as you go about your day.
So what do you think about The Struts? Had you heard of them before?
Tomorrow, May 1, is our next Battle of the Bands. As I warned last week… it’s going to get a bit raucous. You might want to have your headsets handy for this particular battle. But I hope that you will visit with an open mind and cast a vote for your favorite contender. See you then!
Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me BlogHop. Please take a moment to visit the other participants in this BlogHop. As fellow bloggers, they put a lot of effort into their posts and they deserve some visits.
Very nice. I have never heard of them. Have you ever seen the documentary "Sound City: It is a documentary about the fabled recording studio Sound City and directed by Dave Grohl. I think you might like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick!
DeleteI have seen the Sound City documentary. I actually owned a copy of it at one time (gave it to a friend for their birthday) It just made me like Dave Grohl that much more :)

Well, you're always a bundle of information! Totally rad! Now as far as, "The Struts" nope can't say I ever heard of them, but they're not bad. Nope, not bad at all! I can hear why they open for all the big wigs though.. The lead singer does look a lot like Freddie Mercury, but sorry I don't think he sings like him at all! I'm a big fan of Queens & Freddie... what an angelic voice that man had! He's singing with the Angels now though! Such a shame. I have old rolling stones magazines with his pictures that are awesome & your guy here definitely looks like him & nope can't say I've ever heard of them though, but I'm sure I will in the near future... Thanks for playin' along with the 4M's... with all your vast knowledge of music you should pick a month & be one of our Honorary Conductors too. You get to pick the themes (except for the Freebie weeks) & you'll be No. 1 spot on our linky & you'd have to stop by all sign ins... What do you say??? May & June is gone already.. so let one of us know if you'd like to do so. Have a great rockin' week!
ReplyDeleteHaHa! No, he does not sound like him at all, but the looks are uncanny. The band is new on my radar as well, so it was fun learning about them and listening to their music.
DeleteI'd be happy to pick the themes for a month. Go ahead and assign me a month, and I'll put on my thinking cap to come up with a few good themes that should bring a variety of sound.

I had never heard them before, but I like them. Thanks for the introductions.
ReplyDeleteHey Joyce!
DeleteGlad I could make the introduction to you. Enjoy!

Mary,
ReplyDeleteHow come I've not heard of this band before now? They are one of the newer bands in recent years who actually doesn't sound like every other on the market. They really do have a great sound and I so appreciate you sharing them with me. I enjoyed this playlist sample of their mewsic. I'll be eager to hear more. BTW, congrats on finishing the A2Z challenge. I like the way you handled your unofficial participation. Thanks for joining me frequently throughout the month and I hope life settles down for you. I'm sorry for the recent death in your family. Sending hugs & love to you, as well as my thoughts & prayers. God bless, dear friend! It's great having you on the dance floor! ;)
Thanks, Cathy!
DeleteThis past month has been crazy. Sure glad that I decided to participate in the A2Z unofficially. If I had posted daily, I would have been stressed out more than normal. Good news is I took the time to put together an idea for next year. I may even participate properly next year.

that Is a serious resemblance right there ..if his voice is as good as Freddy had, he will be in for a great succes
ReplyDeleteHi Denni
DeleteI don't think he sounds like Freddy, but he does have a good voice (in my opinion)
~Mary
Wow I live in England and I've never heard of them before. Thank you for introducing, i will google them and listen their music.
ReplyDeleteI think you will enjoy their sound. I've got a playlist right here for you to enjoy (should be playable in all countries) I hear their live performances are even more energized than their studio sound.

I must admit, I am not a classic rock fan at all so I haven't heard of either Dave Grohl or the Struts. I do have a spotify account, so maybe I will give them a listen :)
ReplyDeleteHi there
DeleteDave Grohl isn't classic rock, but he is definitely rock. He is considered to be one of the nicest guys in rock - and I think he has a fantastic sense of humor. You'll find most of his music Foo Fighters (he's the lead singer) or Nirvana (he was the drummer there).

Never heard of The Struts before, but they have a definite 80's vibe that I really like.
ReplyDeleteHi John!
DeleteThese guys were new to me as well. I probably wouldn't have even heard of them before if some of the Foo fans hadn't started talking about them in one of the fan groups that I'm in. I don't know how far they will go with their music career, but I do like their sound.
~Mary
It's my first time to hear about The Struts. They should thank you for promoting them and introducing them to your readers!
ReplyDeleteAt first, I thought "nope, never heard of the Struts. Bt I sampled most of the videos and I am certain I've heard the first song "Could Have Been Me". I wonder if I've seen them on Stephen Colbert - I used to watch that show on and off andColbert is a musician and big music lover. My thoughts - they have potential and lots of energy, but I wouldn't pay to see them - not yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible you heard them there. I agree they need more work before I'd pay to see them. Happy with them being opener, though. I hear their live performances have more energy than what's recorded.

Never heard of the Struts before, but I agree with John on the '80's vibe' they seem to have going for them. ;) Thanks for the introduction, and thanks for the dance, Mary! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of the Struts before, but thanks for introducing them.
ReplyDeleteAnd the resemblance is quite something!
I am OBSESSED with The Struts! First heard them a couple years ago and was instantly hooked!
