It's Gonna Be a Bright Sunshiny Day

Ahhh… Monday again :) The weekdays just seem to fly right on by.  If you haven’t voted in the Mid-March Battle of the Bands, now would be a perfect time to do so. (Don’t worry, the link will open a fresh tab/window so you won’t lose your place here). Go on… I’ll wait :)

Speaking of time flying quickly - Can you believe that Spring is just a few days away?  I don’t know what kind of weather you had in your part of the world, but we just had another snow storm this weekend. Perfect for that Spring Break Ski Vacation.

Personally, I’m  tired of the cold and snow. I am ready for springtime and sunshine and WARM weather!

So today, I thought I would ‘will’ the weather gods into sending us this warm weather. Are you with me on this?  If so, open your windows and crank this playlist ‘up to eleven’.  Hopefully the weather gods will hear our plea and answer our call.

  • Katrina & The Waves - Walking on Sunshine
  • Smash Mouth - Walkin' On the Sun
  • Len - Steal My Sunshine
  • Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful of Sunshine
  • Violent Femmes - Blister In The Sun
  • Weezer - Island In The Sun
  • George Harrison - Here Comes The Sun
  • Cream - Sunshine Of Your Love
  • Pablo Cruise - A Place In The Sun
  • John Denver - Sunshine on my Shoulders

What other songs about Sun and Sunshine and warm weather can we add to this list? Do you have any rituals to celebrate the change of the season? Tell me about them in the comments below.

  1. Mary,

I'd like to say it's gonna be a sunny day here but we're under rain clouds this morning and its expected to hang around all day. :( I listened to your sunny playlist while responding to commenters who visited over the weekend and while I did return visits. Your mix introduced some new tunes to me but had some great familiar songs such as "WALKING ON SUNSHINE", "HERE COMES THE SUN" (this vid won't play until you go to YouTube), & "SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDERS". Thanks for making me happy with all these delightful, feel good songs on this otherwise dreary Monday morning.

    1. Good morning Cathy! (or perhaps it is afternoon for you now)

I'm glad that I could brighten your dreary day, if only for a few moments. Thanks for letting me know about the video not playing. Grr so frustrating when they don't play if embeded or added to a playlist.

  2. I don't live far from Cathy (under 200 miles, I think) and the weather's the same here, i.e. lousy. Great selections today! Maybe I should do "moon" on Friday...

  10. Hi Mary,
This was a fun theme, the sun. Good one! My absolute favorite of your playlist is Smash Mouth's "Walkin' on the Sun" --- I cranked it way way up! That's such a cool song... but I had no idea it was about the riots in LA! Did you?? I'm so guilty of not paying attention to lyrics most of the time so I miss a lot of what songs are saying sometimes.
You also turned me on to two songs that are new-to-me and I really like them a lot: Natasha Bedingfield's "Pocket of Sunshine" and Weezer's "Island in the Sun." Especially I'm digging on Pocket of Sunshine. I'll have to check into this artist. I know nothing about her. Never heard of her. Or Weezer either. But that's not surprising, right? :)

And Girl, what a treat that you included some Pablo Cruise! I have not thought about that band in FOR-EVER! That was cool to hear them again.
Even though I had to leave and go to YouTube to listen to George Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun" it was worth it. That's always a great song... Like you, it drives me crazy when songs won't play even though they embed on the playlist.

It was a wonderful sunny day today and I enjoyed it so much. This is the time of year that I like the sun. When it starts getting into the 90s and 100s, I literally start hating the sun. And then I turn into a full-on bitch and am not happy until a cloudy day comes along...which means I stay in bitch-mode most of the summer here in Austin. Ha!

Now that you've put me in a joyfully sunny mood, I'm going to head to bed...
It's been a long day and I am dog-tired...and hurting. Waah... So it's me, a pain pill, my heating pad, and my dogs; we are bed-bound.
    talk soon,

I don't know too many other songs by Natasha Bedingfield. This one was more of a one-hit wonder, I think. But I'm sure you'll enjoy Weezer. Be sure to check out their 'Beverly Hills', 'The Sweater Song', 'Hash Pipe', 'Pork and Beans', 'Say It Ain't So', 'Buddy Holly'.. and so many others. Guess you can say I kinda like 'em :)

Of course, I had to include Pablo Cruise. it HAD been forever since I last heard them. That was a fun throwback!

I hope that you are able to stay cool and have lots of fun with the doggies.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Love it when you stop by :) I still owe you a visit...

  11. We've supposedly got a lot of rain coming our way. Of course, I've heard that before--rain that we never get or doesn't pan out as being as big and terrible as threatened. I'm hoping for the big rain. We get too much sunshine sometimes.

    1. When I lived in the Pacific Northwest, it would rain from November to April. August and September would be horribly humid, but I still look forward to the sunshine and warmth.

  14. I'm so ready for some sunshine and warmth. I'm part bear so I prefer to hibernate when temps get below 50. LOL!

Another great playlist - some of these are lifelong favorites.
